Germany is currently the world’s second-largest recipient of immigrants, second only to the United States. In 2013 the country welcomed around 437,000 new arrivals, most of them from within Europe. At the same time, a growing number of refugees are seeking asylum. While their cases are processed, asylum-seekers are dependent on state welfare - even though most want to work. Various initiatives and government agencies are trying to help asylum-seekers find jobs.
